Purpose
Metal assets and equipment are susceptible to corrosion, a process that gradually deteriorates materials and can compromise structural integrity, equipment reliability, and operational safety. In the maritime and oil and gas industries, exposure to seawater, salt-laden air, moisture, and harsh environmental conditions can significantly accelerate corrosion. If left undetected or inadequately controlled, corrosion can lead to equipment failure, costly repairs, environmental damage, and potentially serious accidents. For these reasons, effective corrosion prevention, monitoring, and control are essential to maintaining asset integrity and ensuring safe and reliable operations.

Objectives
Participants will gain an understanding of the causes, types, and effects of corrosion, with particular emphasis on its impact on the maritime, oil and gas, and related industries. The course covers common corrosion mechanisms, methods for identifying and assessing corrosion damage, inspection and monitoring techniques, and appropriate prevention and control measures. Participants will also learn about protective coatings, corrosion-resistant materials, and other methods used to limit corrosion and slow its progression. Particular emphasis is placed on early detection, proper maintenance, and the implementation of effective corrosion management practices to extend equipment service life and maintain operational safety.
