Purpose
Many workplace injuries and fatalities occur because equipment is not properly isolated before maintenance, repair, cleaning, or other activities that expose personnel to hazardous energy. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is a critical safety procedure used to isolate equipment from energy sources and prevent unexpected start-up, energization, or the release of stored energy while work is being carried out.
