HUET Training (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) – Course

Purpose

This training course is designed to provide helicopter crew members and passengers travelling over water with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to helicopter ditching emergencies. The course focuses on emergency escape procedures following a helicopter water impact, including situations involving helicopter rollover and submersion. Through practical exercises using specialised underwater helicopter simulators, participants gain hands-on experience in a controlled training environment that cannot be fully replicated during routine drills and exercises on offshore installations or vessels. This is an independent training designed to follow OPITO framework (not OPITO approved).

Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will develop the awareness, confidence, and practical skills needed to improve their chances of survival in the event of a helicopter ditching at sea. They will learn how to respond to different ditching scenarios, identify and operate emergency exits, and apply the correct escape techniques under simulated emergency conditions. Particular emphasis is placed on maintaining composure, understanding the effects of disorientation underwater, and following established emergency escape procedures to improve the likelihood of a safe evacuation.

Participants in this course must have a medical certificate that are fit to participate in this training and to sign self declaration medical form.

Evaluation

All participants have to make at least three unassisted escapes-egresses from the helicopter capsule-simulator and to complete a questionnaire in order to obtain the certificate.

Certification – Diploma

All persons who successfully complete the course based on the performance standards will receive certificate with validity of four years in line with Offshore International Industries guidelines. This Training follows international standards of quality and meets the ISO 9001-2015 requirements.
