These activities involve significant risks, including fuel spills, environmental pollution, fire, and equipment damage. Even a small fuel spill can cause substantial environmental harm, while receiving or using contaminated fuel can lead to serious operational problems and damage to marine engines. Proper planning, careful execution, and adherence to established procedures are therefore essential to ensuring safe and environmentally responsible bunkering operations.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be better equipped to identify and manage the hazards associated with routine bunkering operations and understand how to carry out the process safely from preparation through completion. The course covers bunkering planning, pre-transfer checks, communication and coordination, fuel sampling, transfer procedures, and post-bunkering activities. Participants will also learn how to respond to suspected fuel contamination, prevent and manage fuel spills, and apply appropriate control measures throughout the operation. Particular emphasis is placed on regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and the safe handling and transfer of fuel.
